  Unit-IV girls and Unit-IX boys bag BSBL titles

Government Girls High School, Unit-IV and Government Boys High School, Unit-IX emerged champions in the 1st BFI-IMG Reliance Bhubaneswar School Basketball League (BSBL) here at Mother`s Public School court today.

Unit-VI girls` team, comprising players from city-based Government Sports Hostel, beat DAV School, Chandrasekharpur in the final 45-20. In the boys` final, the Unit-IX team, also packed with trainees from sports hostel, prevailed over Mother`s Public School 91-70. Asisan Bada starred in the victory for Unit-IX school, scoring 47 points. He was adjudged the Most Valuable Player (MVP).

 

Sai International School and Chandrasekharpur DAV School finished third in girls` and boys` groups respectively. Local MLAs Bijaya Kumar Mohanty and Priyadarshi Mishra, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, Food and Civil Supply Secretary Madhusudan Padhi, Khordha Collector Niranjan Sahu handed over the trophies and prizes in the presence of Odisha Basketball Association secretary Ashok Sahu and Khordha District Basketball Association secretary Prasanta Nayak.

Odisha Basketball Association, in coordination with Khurda District Basketball Association, organised the tournament from October 21. As many as 16 schools in boys category and 10 in girls are participated in the League. Teams are played league matches after being divided into two groups and top two finishers from each group qualified for the knock-out stage. KDBA chief patron Madhu Sudan Padhi inaugurated the event in the presence of Bhubaneswar Central MLA Bijaya Kumar Mohanty, OBA secretary Ashok Sahu and KDBA secretary Prasant Nayak.
