Odisha lost to host Bengal by an innings and 211 runs on the third and final day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy East Zone under-16 cricket match at Jadavpur University ground in Kolkata on Friday.
Needing 288 runs to avoid innings defeat, Odisha were bowled out for a paltry 76. Bengal captain and left-arm spinner P Pramanik caused maximum damage to Odisha`s second innings, bagging five wickets for 37 runs. Opener Kshyamasagar Bal was the top scorer for Odisha with 34 runs.
Earlier on Thursday, Bengal declared their first innings at 384 for five, in reply to Odisha`s meager total of 97. Opener Sudip Gharami and Abhay Chauhan scored a century each for the home team. Gharami put on 100 runs for the opening wicket with Soumyabrata Nath and added another 222 runs for the second wicket with Chauhan. Odisha skipper Mohammad Sahil Raza was the most successful bowler for his team, taking three wickets for 81 runs.
The innings victory fetched Bengal seven points, while Odisha drew blank. Odisha, who earlier drew their opening match against Jharkhand, will next meet Assam at home from October 28 to 30.
