Cuttack girl Rutaparna Panda bagged a double, winning singles titles in women and under-19 girls categories of the Odisha State Badminton Championship, which concluded at Nalco Nagar in Angul today.

Experienced S Appa Rao of Sambalpur claimed the men`s singles crown, defeating B Kiran Mouli of Bhubaneswar in straight games. A total of 150 players participated in the three-day championship, which featured competition in eight categories.

Nalco Director (Production) P K Routroy handed over the trophies at the closing function. Nalco Executive Director Sanjib Ray, General Manger (HRD) P K Mohanty and Odisha State Badminton Association secretary Pradip Mohaty were present on the occasion.

The state championship will serve as the basis for selection of Odisha squad for the East Zone Badminton Championship to be held at Haridwar in Uttarakhand from September 21 to 23.

U-19 girls’ singles: Rutaparna Panda bt Lisharani Parida 21-5, 21-3.
45+ veteran doubles: Trinath Dehuri-Nakula Behera bt Sameer Kumar Sahu-H K Mishra 21-9, 23-21.
